Snowplows

I have a simple story I feel I should share. During Christmas Break we went to Utah for our middle daughter’s wedding. We were originally going to fly, but circumstances changed and we ended up driving. We’ve driven that road many times in the last 25 years. It’s always a bit precarious driving that route in the winter. The road conditions are not always ideal. So you can’t be in a hurry and you plan it so you’re traveling the mountain passes during daylight, and you say lots of prayers.

It was my turn to say the prayer before we headed out for the last leg of the trip. Part of my prayer I said “Bless the roads that they’ll be clear.” We checked the weather conditions. It called for snow most of the day. But we were traveling in the daylight, and we weren’t in a hurry. If we needed to pull over we could.

We started our drive and the roads were okay in some areas and sketchy in others. When you have icy road conditions the safest place to be is right behind the snowplow. Guess what?! The roads were clear for us because in the most treacherous parts of the trip we ended up right behind a snowplow, following in the clear path it had just made.

On three separate occasions, when the roads were the worst, we found ourselves right behind a snowplow. That’s not exactly what I was thinking when I uttered the prayer that morning. I was thinking clear, no ice or snow on the roads.

For me it was a testimony that God does hear and answer our prayers, even our simple prayers to help us be safe. But He doesn’t always answer them in the exact ways we expect. I was expecting clear roads from good weather, but He provided clear roads through the help of some snow plows. God works in many ways, but most of the time He works through other people, who are simply going about doing good.
